A THOROUGHLY MODERN THERAPY.

BWRT® is BrainWorking Recursive Therapy®, an immensely effective technique that can often dissolve mind-related problems far more quickly than you might think. There's nothing else like it in the world of therapy.

WHAT IS BrainWorking Recursive Therapy?

BWRT® is a new model of psychology and psychopathology that fits comfortably with current thinking on neuroscience. It’s a determinedly solution-focused modern therapy. Perhaps the most important thing about it is that it is unique, entirely scientific, and works in a quite different way from slower therapies such as CBT, counselling or hypnotherapy.

It is a totally confidential method that does not require you to reveal your private information or personal secrets to your therapist, it is carried out in a completely conscious state.  It does not use hypnosis or any mystical concepts – it is completely logical, practical, and down to earth and only needs you to know what you want to change in your life for it to be completely successful.

HOW DOES BWRT WORK, EXACTLY?

NEURAL PATHWAYS

Your brain has created neural pathway responses meaning that often you will respond to events and situations in a way that you would like to change. Imagine if you could change those unwanted responses for positive, welcome responses.

MAKING THE CHANGE

By stopping and rerouting the brain’s natural response to anything traumatic or not understood in its tracks, BWRT can prevent the negative outward symptoms of conditions like depression, anxiety and behavioural issues.

A POSITIVE OUTCOME

BWRT enables you create a different neural pathway response – in other words a different mental reaction – before you react to something. The change can be so natural that you may not even notice the subtle switch.

LET THE FOUNDER OF BWRt, TERENCE WATTS, EXPLAIN HOW IT WORKS

BrainWorking Recursive Therapy®  - BWRT® - was created in 2011 by Terence Watts, a therapist, author of many books and training courses and principal of the Essex Institute in Essex, UK. Like many great ideas it was born out of a moment of inspiration while reading about some experiments carried out in 1983 which appeared to show that we don't actually have free will in the way we usually think of it. More than that, it showed that decisions were made and acted upon by our mental processes before we become consciously aware of them.

MORE ABOUT BWRT®

It was immediately evident that this process accounted for a huge number of the psychological difficulties which so many people have to put up with, and obvious, too, that with some research it could provide the basis for a profound therapeutic intervention, something potentially more powerful and effective than anything that existed to date. Terence had for some time been working on an idea to work with several complicated issues:

  • Why we sometimes can't stop ourselves doing things.

  • Why we sometimes feel that we just cannot do something we would really like to.

  • Why we so often limit ourselves from getting on with life.

  • Why we sometimes give up on something without even trying properly to do it.

  • Why we sometimes fear something when there's no real reason to do so.

  • Why some situations 'trigger' uncomfortable feelings, even though we have no idea why.

  • Why therapy doesn't always work as we want it to.

The research, investigation and analysis Terence had carried out so far had raised almost as many question as answers; he was unwilling, though, to accept that this was just the way things are and it was reading about the 1983 experiments that the key to the entire puzzle exploded into Terence's mind. He began working on the project immediately and it soon became evident that here was something very special indeed, something that worked in a way that was different from anything that had gone before. After extensive testing, a training programme was implemented and rapidly gained the reputation among many therapists as a 'must have' process for working with all manner of issues.

An exercise you can try

While it’s not as effective as a full session, it is a useful tool, helping you to ‘record over’ automatic reactions if you get a sudden attack of negative thoughts.

Close your eyes and imagine a clock face – it must be an analogue clock with an hour hand, a minute hand and a second hand. Make it really vivid. Think about the colour of the hands and the face and if there are numerals or markers. The clock’s ticking and you can see the second hand moving.

Now, send your mind to that troublesome thought and make that image as detailed as you possibly can. When it is as vivid as you can make it, zoom in quickly to what seems to be the most important part of it

Now freeze that memory solid, like a 3D model frozen in time, in which you can move, but nothing else can. Be inside it looking out, rather than outside it looking in. Freeze it solid!

Picture the clock face again and this time, notice that the clock has stopped – the second hand isn’t moving by even the tiniest amount. Really focus on that clock that has stopped at that time. Absolutely stopped. And as soon as you’ve fully focussed on it, walk away.

As you walk past the clock in your mind, leave that frozen memory behind.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT TINA & BWRT

“Tina is a great therapist and BWRT is an easy therapy for me as the patient to cope with. It produces results in a short space of time. Tina has been a tremendous help and support in dealing with my major issues from childhood resulting in addictions later in life. She created a positive space in which to guide me through the BWRT process. Over a number of sessions with Tina I was able to see my addiction issues in their true light and have been able to deal with them using the BWRT process with Tina. After struggling with other therapies and counselling over the years with limited results I would thoroughly recommend Tina and BWRT.”

PG, King’s Lynn

“After experiencing bereavement and suspending my studies at University I was at a loss with how to deal with my grief. Having BWRT treatment helped me to process my emotions and to work through my instinctive responses to my trauma. I now feel in control and do not have to spend time avoiding triggers or environments that would have previously been detrimental to my mental health. I cannot recommend BWRT or Tina highly enough!”

AJ, Cromer

“Tina is a natural connector and I feel totally at ease with her. Through her intuitive and empathic skills and her therapy, she is able to home in on the presenting situation and bring clarity and healing. I work as a holistic healer myself and Tina is the person that I see on a regular basis - I think that says it all!”

— BH, Tunbridge Wells

WHAT HAPPENS DURING A BWRT SESSION?

Nothing scary! No swinging pocket-watches, no hypnosis, no dark arts.

In fact, it’s exactly the opposite; straightforward with no gimmicks.

It only needs you to know what you want to change in your life.

YOUR BWRT SESSION

  • During a session of BWRT® Tina will ask you a number of questions about your background and what has brought you to come and see her.  You will not be asked to reveal ‘any secrets or intimate details’ about your life.

  • You will only have to tell Tina how you ‘currently feel’ and how you would ‘like to feel’ instead.

  • It’s a totally confidential method that does not require you to reveal your private information or personal secrets, it’s carried out in a completely conscious state.

  • It does not use hypnosis or any mystical concepts – it is completely logical, practical, and down to earth and only needs you to know what you want to change in your life for it to be completely successful.
